Choose a Beauty Pageant Evening Gown
The evening gown portion of a beauty pageant epitomizes the qualities of a beauty queen: grace, poise and elegance. Choosing the appropriate gown for your body, coloring and type of pageant ensures you make the very best impression during the competition.
Instructions
1. Determine what type of evening gown or formal wear is appropriate for your pageant. If you are competing in a scholarship pageant, the required evening wear will be more modest than if you are vying for a title in a pageant in the Miss USA system. Pay attention to the information given to you by the pageant organization. Respect the requests regarding dress length, amount of beading and modesty.
2. Select a color that flatters your skin type and hair color. Lighting on a stage during a beauty pageant is very bright and harsh. Choose a color that will not wash you out under this type of lighting. Blondes look good in pinks, blues and greens. Brunettes with deeper skin tones can wear yellows, whites and metallic colors well. Red heads with fair skin show up best in jewel tones.
3. Pay attention to the cut of the gown. Most people have a problem area of their figure they wish to downplay and everyone has an outstanding feature that needs highlighting. Choose a strapless gown or one with interesting straps to feature your shoulders. Avoid large bows or details on the back of a dress if you want to draw attention away from your rear end. Draping across your tummy can camouflage a bulge. Bias cut gowns are suited only for the very toned and fit.
4. Alter your gown's hemline to the perfect length. The front of the gown should hit the top of your foot below your ankle. A gown that is too long can cause an embarrassing trip on stage, and a gown that is too short ruins the line of the gown. Have your hemline adjusted with the shoes you intend to wear with your gown on stage.
